Health care system of Tripura has miserably failed to tackle the Covid19 pandemic situation. Even as the State Government is sincere in serving people, there exists huge gap in implementation. It is important that the State Government ‘put the right person at right place’ to come out of present chaotic health care situation. Former health Minister and BJP MLA Sudip Roy Barman said this in Agartala on Friday.
Roy Barman painted a grim picture for next three months and claimed that there were clear indications that community transmission had begun. At this crucial juncture, he urged people to strictly follow the Covid19 norms and maintain social distancing.
In the wake allegations of serious lapses and loopholes in health care delivery system at State prime Hospital GBP Hospital’s Covid care facility, Sudip Roy Barman pointed out several reasons behind such deplorable condition of the health system.
He alleged, “There is no system that really exists. People are losing lives, infection is spreading rapidly across the state. And, surprisingly, there is no one to ascertain the ground situation prevailing in the Covid wards”. There had been no instances when a higher official monitored prevailing condition of GBP Covid ward where most of the critical patients were kept there.
Roy Barman elaborated and opined, “Despite adequate SOPs, restrictions and separate circulars from the state government, the disease is spreading and people are dying.
In this situation, drawing circulars and administrative orders will not help. Regular assessment of the ground situation is needed at this hour. Every decision must be cross checked in the implementing stage. As no such system exists, there are serious communication gaps among the patient parties, on-duty doctors and people in administration. This is the reason behind this failure”.
He had also raised concern over an alleged tendency of suppressing data.
Sudip Roy Barman, who had failed to meet Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb even after repeated attempts also present situation demands some tough calls”, Sudip suggested.
Shedding lights on possible solutions, he said, the government undoubtedly has a will to serve the people and a glaring example of this has been set by the Chief Minister himself who had visited GBP hospital recently but unless and until responsibility is not passed to the right hands, nothing will change.
“As I was seeing live video of Chief Minister’s GB visit, there were many doctors surrounding the Chief Minister who had never entered the the Covid wards. So there is every possibility that they will be able to brief the Chief Minister properly. We need active people who will go inside there, talk with patients and take actions accordingly”, Sudip said.
He recommended the name of previous NHM chief and incumbent DM West, Sailesh Kumar Yadav as the best person to entrust with the job.
Barman also suggested bringing in some IT interventions to resolve the problems as the state has capabilities to deliver what other states like Mumbai and Delhi can. “Laptop on wheels, mobile phones, video conferencing, online tutorials for health staff in quarantine are some of the steps that we can follow from other states. This will decrease the risk in manifold”, he said.
