At the time of crisis period, Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC) has announced some solace for its consumers today.
The Chairman of Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission S Radhakrishnan said, “The nation and the state are going through unprecedented crisis due to the COVID19 pandemic. In view of present situation, we have come up with decisions that will provide some financial relief to electricity consumers.”
The most important decision is TSECL tariff for 2020-21 FY will remain unchanged – there will be no hike in the tariff. Notably, tariff was revised for the last time in 2014.
Pointing out several rebate and incentive plans, Radhakrishnan added, “During the last few months, many consumers have not been able to pay their dues but we haven’t cut the connection of any single one of them.”
The Chairman said that TSECL would reward consumers who make prompt payment of bills via manual or digital mode by giving a 5 pc rebate. This would allow for timely collection of much needed revenue by TSECL which has been hampered across various regions of the state.
Moreover, power consumed in tea, coffee and rubber plantations will get a higher rebate of 10 pc for prompt bill payment. On top of this, a further rebate of 10 pc will be provided to every consumer with prepaid meters to encourage its adoption among the masses. Also as part of the Go Green initiative, a flat discount of Rs 10 would be provided to consumers who opt for a digital copy of electricity bill instead of a physical one.
S Radhakrishnan said, “Even though the electricity tariff has remained constant since 2014, the price of gas has increased a lot. So we are looking into ways of cutting costs in terms of electricity generation as well ensuring safe distribution.”
