With the increase in number of Covid19 patients in Tripura, State Health administration is facing the heat and several instances of serious ‘negligence’ and lapses came to the fore. Especially, State’s prime healthcare center – GBP Hospital is in the eye of the storm. Chief Minister, also the Health Minister Biplab Kumar Deb already visited the GBP Hospital on September 2 last and instructed the hospital authority to take specific corrective measures.
Despite this, reports of mismanagement were pouring, particularly relating to treatment and corpses handling.
In the wake of such situation, former Health Minister and BJP MLA Sudip Roy Barman visited GBP Hospital – which falls under his constituency – along with another BJP MLA Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday. After the visit, Roy Barman threatened to go for aggressive attempts if things do not fall in place with two or three days.
Notably, Sudip Roy Barman, who was vocal in highlighting several lapses and shortcomings in GBP hospital relating to Covid, addressed a Press briefing to express his views and suggestions to battle the Covid pandemic recently.
On Monday, he went to GBP hospital and said that if the issues were not resolved within two to three days aggressive attempts would surely come henceforth. He was accompanied by MLA Sushanta Chowdhury.
After a prolonged discussion with GBP hospital authorities, Roy Barman said, “The prime reason behind this visit is to ascertain whether any attempts have been taken or not to address the allegations. Unfortunately, the concerned administration had not been seen taking any significant step. I have talked with Subhasis Das, who is among the officials entrusted with Covid duty. He has assured us to do needful steps to resolve the problems. I have also suggested to him some steps personally and told him to take help of information technology to meet the crisis”.
He also alleged that people had lost faith in GBP hospital and there was a common spree of seeking discharge even being sick. He attributed all these lapses on the communication gap and lack of coordination.
Citing example of Assam and role of Himanta Biswa Sarma, MLA Sushanta Chowdhury said, “If Assam can why we cannot. Tripura has also potentials to handle the situation in a better way”. Chowdhury also suggested that the authorities should also take care whether any sabotage or backbiting was going on or not.
