As Coronavirus rage is on in Tripura, State Government is focusing on harnessing health care system at GBP Hospital in Agartala as well as improving the facilities in the districts. After suggesting corrective measures, Chief Minister who also holds Health portfolio, Biplab Kumar Deb said the state government is on a move to decentralize and strengthen the healthcare facilities up to district level so that the load of referral cases on GBP hospital reduces.
Notably Deb started visiting districts from September 08 and visited Unakoti and Dhalai. On Wednesday, he toured Khowai and Dhalai districts.
Addressing a review meeting at conference hall of Khowai DM office, the Chief Minister said the refer of only patients having complicacy like liver, kidney related disease and cancer to GBP hospital would not only reduce the load on state’s prime referral healthcare institution but also benefit the rural people to a great extent if the treatment facilities available at GBP hospital reach the district level.
Meanwhile, decentralization of Covid Care facilities is one of the key demands of the opposition CPIM and its leader Manik Sarkar. Even, he raised the same demand while meeting Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in a recent past.
In view of the safety of people from the COVID19 pandemic, the Chief Minister is making tireless efforts to review and strengthen the healthcare system up to grassroots.
Continuing to pay review visits to take stock of the latest Corona situation for the second consecutive day, the Chief Minister on Wednesday inspected several Covid Care Centres as well as held important meetings with local health and administrative officials in Khowai and Dhalai districts.
After visiting Covid Care Centers at PRTI and ST Boys Hostel in Ambasa, the Chief Minister said he felt that it takes long time to transfer a patient from distant districts to Agartala which creates more problems.
In this context, the Chief Minister announced that a 15-bed Covid Care Hospital would be set up at Ambassa primary health centre in two days. The beds having oxygen facility and the injections for emergency would be supplied from GBP hospital, the Chief Minister said. In the meantime, the Chief Minister also passed an instruction to the officials concerned to be more active so that the patients don’t face any problem.
There is a 335-bed Covid Hospital in Ambasa, which includes five oxygen beds and 25 oximeters. Another 15 oxygen beds would be added in the existing hospital. As of now, total 100 oximeters have been provided to the people in home isolation, the Chief Minister told media.
As part of his visit to Dhalai district, the Chief Minister chaired a meeting at conference hall of DM office and asked the officials to ensure Rs. 1500 and oximeters meant for COVID19 patients reach them at the earliest. He also stressed on removing the shortcomings to tackle the situation.
The Chief Minister then reached Khowai district to review the situation. Apart from visiting various Covid care facilities, he held extensive discussions with the local administrative and health officials. Deb was accompanied by Tribal Welfare minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia.
He asked the authorities concerned to ensure better service from Khowai district’s Covid Helpline number.
“Only attending a call is not the end. If a patient’s condition is serious, the person attending the call needs to take additional measures for bringing the matter to notice of CMO and other health officials,” Deb said. As part of his Khowai visit, the Chief Minister also inspected Tulashikhar Covid Care Center.
