Home Secretary of the Mizoram government LALBIAKSANGI on Friday wrote a letter to Home Secretary of the Tripura government to maintain status quo at Phuldengsei, a disputed bordering territory located adjacent to Kanchanpur sub-division of Tripura.
In the letter, the Home Secretary mentioned about a temple attempted to be constructed by Songrongma, a religious organization and also a proposed community work. The Home Secretary feared that this could result in a serious law and order situation and suggested to maintain status quo at the area. He also suggested to conduct a joint verification in participation of Survey India to resolve the issue of disputed territory.
“With reference to the subject cited above, I am directed to inform you that report has been received by the Government of Mizoram regarding attempts by SONGRONGMA of Tripura to construct a Mandir at the disputed Inter-State border village near Phuldungsei at Thaidawr tlang, Mamit District. It is also reported that community work is proposed to be organized on 19th and 20th October, 2020”, the letter reads.
The letter further added, “Since any activities within the disputed Inter-State border can result in law & order problems, it is requested to kindly intervene and issue necessary instructions to the concerned District Administration for the immediate and indefinite stoppage of the proposed construction. Further, Survey of India has been requested to facilitate joint spot verification with the Government of Mizoram and Tripura to resolve the Inter-State boundary issue at the earliest”.
Requesting the government to maintain the status quo, it added, “Therefore, it is the earnest request of the State Government that the status quo be maintained to prevent law and order situation between the different communities of both sides.” Copies of the letter were also forwarded to Mizoram Chief Minister, Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister, police and other pertinent authorities.
