Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday stressed on the importance of agriculture driven economy and said that the state government was trying wholeheartedly to keep the state’s money rolling in its domestic economy.
Addressing the ceremonial inauguration of Mukhyamantri Godhan Prakalp, he said, “in Tripura people are largely relying on processed powder milk for consumption. But, the state government has taken an initiative to multiply the milk production through artificial sex sorted insemination programme. This programme will not only increase the number of female calves but will also enhance the milk production of the state”.
According to Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, the state’s economy will witness a radical change with this project and this scheme will also help a huge number of the population achieve self-reliance. In his own words, this scheme will bring a revolution in the “Dairy Sector”.
According to the government statistics, the government has identified altogether 1 lakh 65 thousand cows for insemination spread in 23 blocks and urban civic bodies. The number of doses that will be administered on the cows has been fixed to 3 lakh 12 thousand. And, the government has to bear an expenditure of Rs 16 Crore 19 Lakh 43 thousand.
ARDD Minister Santana Chakma said, the state has also get grants from the Centre and North East Council to work on meat processing projects. “We have received Rs 14.63 crore for setting up a meat processing unit here in ADC areas. Soon the state’s economy will start fetching benefits of the under progress projects”, she said.
Speaking on the issue ARDD director K Sasikumar said that this was the first time such a programme had been launched on a massive scale in the Eastern quarter of the country. This sex-sorted insemination drive will decraese the chances of male calves being born and thus state’s milk production capabilities would increase manifolds.
“Artificial insemination programme is launched in Tripura. This many days we are doing it through conventional semen extracted from high genetic bulls. When you do it in a traditional system the cow can give birth to either a male calf or a female calf. The chances are fifty fifty. The chance of a female calf being born is just 50 percent in the conventional way. The sex sorted technology meant to make 90 to 96 percent sure that a female calf is born. Say, if in the next two years we are going to get 1 lakh calves the number of female cattle would be more and add up the present milking cows. This will directly influence the quantity of milk and the population of milk producing cows” the director said.
