The ‘Justice for 10,323’, an organization of terminated 10,323 ad hoc teachers on Sunday announced a hunger strike scheduled to begin from the first week of December demanding a permanent solution of their livelihood issues.

The teachers reasoned, on October 03 last, they had met Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and placed their demands before him. Although the Chief Minister assured them of chalking out ways to find out a permanent solution of the retrenched teachers within two months, they were still to witness any step from the government with the given time to get ended in a few days.

Addressing the media at Agartala Press Club, Ajoy Debbarma, convener of the Justice for 10,323 teachers organization said, “our movement has been continuous and every time we have withdrawn our movements after a positive assurance from the government. Previously, we have staged a sit-in demonstration, we have marched to the secretariat, we have also met in a series of deputations to the education minister and the Chief Minister but till date there is no positive news for us”.

On transpired in the meeting with Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, he said, “We have made a clear approach to the Chief Minister and apprised him of the serious financial and social trauma the 10,323 teachers are undergoing nowadays. Those who have loaned money from the banks are now spending nights in a sleepless state. The Chief Minister has given us a patient hearing and assured us of a solution within two months. Now, only a few days are left to get the tenure of wait over and we have seen nothing concrete. The motive of the hunger strike is to hear from the government about their plans regarding us”.
