Leaders of Joint Movement Committee (JMC) have raised questions over the arrest of one Debu Malakar, resident of Subratanagar village in Kanchanpur, for his alleged involvement in Biswajit Debbarma killing case.

Notably, Police arrested Debu Malakar on Saturday in connection with the lynching of fireman Biswajit Debbarma at Panisagar during the recent Anti-Bru rehabilitation agitation.

A delegation of JMC met Officer in-charge of Panisagar PS and handed over a memorandum to Police administration on Sunday placing several queries relating to Police firing at Panisagar.

JMC leaders urged the OC of Panisagar PS to look into the matter of arrest of Debu Malakar and urged to ponder over “on what basis Debu Malakar was arrested”.

JMC leaders also raised voice seeking justice for Srikanta Das who was killed in Police firing at Panisagar on November 21 during the anti-Bru rehabilitation stir.

“Why man behind the fatal firing was not identified and arrested”, the memorandum read.

In the memorandum, it was further pointed out that three complaints were lodged on November 28 last with the Panisagar PS – however, not a single complaint was registered so far.

“Why complaints were not registered. Who is working from behind the scene and preventing in registering the complaints”, the memorandum read.

Continuing to focus upon incidences that occurred on November 21 at Panisagar, JMC leaders pointed out as to why no steps were taken for those who received bullet injuries during the clash. Also, why Police launched attacks on vehicles of agitators and common people and who gave Police the order for this.

JMC leaders also demanded clarification as to under which section of the Constitution, Police put up barricades at roads connecting Kanchanpur and on National highway.

Speaking to media, JMC leaders warned of intensified agitation if Police fail to come up with plausible replies.
