Two more persons were arrested in connection with the abduction of Litan Nath in Tripura. Earlier, one person was arrested in this case.
North District Police have been conducting relentless operations to find out whereabouts of Litan Nath who was abducted from his Damchhera house on intervening nights of November 27 and November 28 last. One suspected person was arrested from Khedachhera earlier and police officers are interrogating the arrested person. Based on information from multiple sources, Damchhera Police arrested Ganza Reang (29) and Petera Reang (30) from Damchhera Bru relief camp.
Notably, 35-year-old Litan Nath was abducted late November 27 night from his residence at Damchhera and kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 1.5 lakh. Describing the miscreants, Litan Nath’s wife recounted, all of them were wearing black dresses and were masked. All of them donned caps and had carried lethal weapons along. They talked to each other in a language that she failed to recognize but were talking to her and her husband in Hindi, she told the reporters.
She said that the abductors asked for a ransom amount of Rs 1.5 lakh for the safe release of Litan Nath”.
Meanwhile, resentment among the common people is brewing as Police have failed to trace Litan Nath. “Two weeks have elapsed, but Police have failed, so far, to make much headway in rescuing Litan. Moreover, three more persons were recently kidnapped from Ganganagar in Dhalai – and like Litan Nath, Police are yet to trace the abducted persons. These failures of Police have sparked tension and anger among the people of North and Dhalai district”, said a resident of Dharmanagar.
People’s anger escalated after some miscreants, allegedly backed by the ruling party, attacked Amra Bangali leaders and activists in Dharmanagar on Thursday.
“Amra Bangali were demanding immediate rescue of all the four kidnapped persons. For reasons best known them only, the goons attacked the leaders. This is a shameful incident and Police must act against the miscreants”, said a shop keeper of Dharmanagar.
Local sources said, the abductions and attack on Amra Bangali supporters have triggered serious resentment among the people and pressure on Police is mounting.
