In an attempt to give a boost to Atma Nirbhar Tripura initiative, the State government has decided to withdraw Stamp Duty on bank loans for Government sponsored schemes.

The State cabinet has given consent to waive off Stamp duty in case of bank loans upto Rs 5 lakh for Government sponsored projects and to insert a clause in new recruitment policy of the State government.

Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said this on Tuesday at the civil secretariat and added the decision has been taken to give a boost in creating Atama Nirbhar Tripura.

Detailing the cabinet decision, Nath said, “Loan applicants had to pay stamp duty of Rs 10 or Rs 50 to avail loans for Government projects like KCC, PMAY, Mukhya Mantri Swanirbhar Yojana etc. However, the council of ministers of Tripura Government has decided that stamp duty would not be required any more to avail such loans”.

In this connection, Nath said, Stamp Duty collection was a source of revenue for the State Government. As many as 2 lakh 21 thousand persons took bank loans in 2019-20 FY and the Government would lose revenue of Rs 60 lakh 90 thousand due to the decision of waiving off the Stamp Duty.

The Minister said, “The Government has decided to forgo the revenue for the sake of Atma Nirbhar Tripura”.

Besides, a new clause has been inserted in the recruitment policy that makes knowledge Bengali or Kokbarok mandatory for every job applicant. “The State cabinet has decided to add knowledge of Bengali Kokbarok as one of the required eligibility criteria along with educational and related criteria”, Nath said.
