Eid observed without fanfare
Amidst Corona scare, the State observed Eid ul Fitr with gaiety sans usual fanfare on Friday. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb greeted people of the State and extended best wishes on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. He prayed for happiness and the prosperity of the people on this pious occasion.MP Pratima Bhoumik also greeted the people on this auspicious occasion.
Following the Covid guidelines, devotees performed Namaz in mosques across the State. The main programme was held at Jame Mosque at Masjidpatti in Agartala. Imam Abdur Rahman led the Namaz. After the Namaz, devotees prayed for the well-being of the people of the State as well as the country and relief from the deadly Covid pandemic.
Apart from Agartala, Eid was observed at Sonamura, Boxanagar, Charilam, Udaipur Belonia and other areas.
Due to the deadly second wave of Covid19, both in Agartala and other parts of the State, Eid-ul-Fitr was a low-key affair. Eid marks the end of the holy month of Ramzan as per the Islamic calendar.
Not just a limited number of devotees gathered at the mosques, moreover, devotees exchanged greetings by showing salam instead of customary hugging.
Tusker tramples one man to death
A 52-year old man was trampled to death by a Tusker at Baghber area in Kalyanpur on Friday evening. Another person, identified as Pradip Debnath (40) was critically injured. The deceased was identified as Niranjan Das.
Local sources said, Das and Debnath were returning from North Maharanipur Bazar to their houses at Kalijoy Sepaipara under Baghber. They were carrying food items. While they were walking down the road, a tusker attacked them. The rampaging elephant instantly killed Niranjan Majhi Das and Pradip Debnath sustained injuries.
Later local people informed Forest department Officials of Teliamura and Kalyanpur. Kalyanpur Police also reached the spot and took the injured person to a local hospital.
Speaking to the media, the Forest department officer of Kalyanpur area, Bikash Ghosh said, the area where Das was fatally attacked is known as the elephant zone. Movements of elephants in the area are often been noticed.
Ghosh also said that the Forest Department would provide financial help to the family members of the deceased later on.
Till the report filling, body of Das was kept at Kalyanpur morgue for post mortem.
