A group of farmers of a bordering area in Tripura are reportedly facing obstacles in taking out agricultural activities on their croplands lying on the other side of barbed wire fencing along the India-Bangladesh border.
With paddy cultivation in Tripura gaining momentum due to the State Government’s paddy procurement drive, farmers of West Singichhara – a bordering village under Khowai in Tripura are bogged down with hindrances as BSF jawans are not opening the border gates for last 3-4 days, most likely because of security reasons during I-Day.
However, as the gates remain closed, the farmers are unable to start the Aman Paddy cultivation in their lands.

Irked at the delay caused by the action of the BSF, farmers having farmlands on the other side of fencing along the border blocked the road at Tanti Para under West Singichhara near Khowai on Monday.
The blockade paralyzed traffic movement along Khowai-Kamalpur and Khowai-Kailashahar roads. The agitating farmers alleged they are facing twin problems in undertaking cultivation on their lands which are lying on the other side of the Indo-Bangla fencing.
“On the one hand, we are unable to bring our agri-products due to menace of Bangladeshi miscreants, on the other hand, we are facing troubles as the BSF jawans are not opening the border gates”, agitating farmers alleged.
Aggrieved farmers further alleged, “We have prepared our agri-land for cultivating Amon paddy and the paddy saplings have also been prepared. However, as BSF jawans are not opening the gates, we are unable to go to fields and take up cultivation”.
After repeated pleas failed, farmers including the women members of the farming community staged the road blockade today. Later, the BSF authority along with the local administration assured the farmers and the blockade was withdrawn.
