Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb asked the Industry and Commerce department officials to focus on attracting investors of other States as well as Bangladesh to invest in the State.

 

Deb said, “Industry friendly atmosphere is prevailing in Tripura. Capitalizing on the prevailing situation, industries and manufacturing units should be set up based on the goods produced and available in the State for generating employment scopes to local people.

 

Entrepreneurs and industrialists need to be wooed for investing in the State”.

 

Deb was addressing a review meeting of the Industries and Commerce department at the civil secretariat on Friday.

 

In the meeting, Deb also emphasized on contacting the big investors and encouraging them for development of industry in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Sabroom.

 

The Chief Minister laid importance on setting up industries based on bamboo, rubber and honey.

 

In another note, Deb asked the department concerned for taking initiative to set up a Border Haat at Simna. Besides, he asked the officials to ensure timely completion of all ongoing Border Haat projects as well as to develop the existing border haats. He directed the officials to ensure expansion of trading activities through the Integrated Check Post (ICP).

 

He stressed regular monitoring of Central and State Governments’ projects for proper implementation. Deb also asked the department to conduct review meetings relating to the project implementations with the banks. In this connection, the Chief Minister directed the Industry and Commerce department to conduct large-scale training programmes for various earning generating activities for electricians, plumbers etc.

 

 In the meeting, the Chief Minister took review of various ongoing works and discussed them in length.

 

Director T.K. Chakma apprised the meeting about the upgradation of Badharghat, R.K. Nagar and A.D. Nagar industrial estates. He also presented the latest position of all eight notified Land Customs Stations.

 

Chakma informed the meeting that a plan was in the pipeline to transform Women’s ITI into a model ITI. He also gave an overview of the new initiatives and annual work plan for the financial year 2021-22.

 

Industries and Commerce minister Manoj Kanti Deb, Chief Secretary Kumar Alok and Secretary P.K. Goyal among others were present in the review meeting.
