In consonance with the Tripura Government’s plan to decentralize the medical facilities in district and sub-division levels, Bishalgarh Sub-division hospital is on the path of modernization and the local people, particularly the pregnant women, are reaping the benefits.
In an attempt to encourage more institutional delivery to further reduce the Infant and Maternal Mortality Rates in the State Caesarean Delivery facilities have been introduced in the hospital. Earlier, only normal deliveries could be done and pregnant women who would need caesarean delivery had to travel to Agartala. This would create a serious problem for financially weak patients and their family members.
Speaking to the media, Sub-Divisional Health Officer Dr. JM Das said, “there are at least ten caesarean deliveries being conducted in Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital every month at present. Besides, the minimum number of normal delivery per month is around 80 cases”.
Dr Das also said, in addition to the specialist doctors for caesarean delivery of Bishalgarh Hospital, more specialist doctors are being brought from Agartala. Caesarean delivery services are completely free, he pointed out.
Along with infrastructure development, health care delivery services have been improved at the Hospital. Outdoor, indoor and emergency services are being provided completely free of cost. Earlier, Rs 100 were charged for X-Ray – however, this too has been made free now. During the last three years, an operation theatre and blood bank have been set up in the sub-divisional hospital. Recently an Oxygen Plant was set utilizing the PM Care fund.
There is Ayushman Mitra in the hospital. Diagnostic services are also available for free.
All the services of Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Ophthalmology, Dental and Medicine departments are being provided free of cost to the patients.
In addition, children with birth defects are treated free of cost under the RBSK project.
There are three ambulances that are providing 24-hour service. Patients, if needed, can be immediately referred to hospitals in Agartala for better treatment.
A canteen has been set up at the hospital. This arrangement has been made so that the relatives of the admitted patients do not have any difficulty during nighttime. A total of eight doctors are in the hospital.
The Health Officer said a proposal has been sent to the concerned authority to build quarters for doctors and health workers. If the quarters are built, doctors and health workers will be able to stay near the hospital 24 hours a day and attend emergency cases promptly.
