A total of 200 successful surgeries were completed at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Center at Agartala in Tripura.

As the congratulations are pouring in, Chief Secretary Kumar Alok tweeted, “Kudos to the entire ABVRCC team for carrying out more than 200 major cancer surgeries. We are all proud of such an achievement. It’s great relief for the cancer patients of the state. I am sure ABVRCC will continue this momentum and attain new heights.”

A 29-year-old resident of Manu Bazar in Sabroom was recently diagnosed with thyroid cancer. This year he came to Agartala for treatment at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Center. His tumour by then got widespread in the chest and neck. After the cancer was diagnosed, the doctors decided to operate. There were swells in such a way that this surgery was risky enough.

According to a press release issued by the ICA, Dr.Ashish Kumar Gupta and Dr.PriteshRajib Singh, the oncologists of the Cancer Hospital on December 9, performed the surgery. Anaesthesiologists were Dr.Mrinal Kanti Debbarma and Dr.Partha Debbarma.

The 9-hour long surgery was a critical one and the patient was kept in ICU after the surgery. At present the patient’s condition is stable, doctors said.

Even as the ABVRCC was well equipped with radiology and medical oncology, due to the lack of onco-surgeons in the Hospital, patients had to go to other states for surgeries. To address this problem, the state government has hired two eminent surgeons from Mumbai and New Delhi to reap the benefits of difficult cancer surgery in the state.

With the introduction of onco-surgery at ABVRCC in Agartala, the doctors conducted successful surgeries and reduced the dependence of the patients on treatment in other States. While the outflow of the patients came down, patients from abroad have started coming to the hospital for treatment.
