For Nunhsilian Kaipeng, it appears TS Eliot is wrong – April is not the cruellest month but December.
A resident of Santang village under Ampinagar, Nunhsilian along with his wife and a 19-year old was battling the worries and difficulties of life like many other families living in abject poverty.
A ray of happiness sparked in the hut of Nunhsilian after his wife conceived for the second time. Pity, the spark of happiness faded away too soon and unexpected darkness engulfed Nunhsilian and his wife.
On December 23, when people were preparing to celebrate Christmas, Nunhsilian received a serious blow of fate – his newborn baby died during the delivery time.
He was saddened, so was his wife. But Nunhsilian was oblivious that more dreadful turn of luck was waiting for him.
The next day after his newborn baby died, his 19 year old daughter Lalraut Feli Kaipeng died at Teliamura Hospital on December 24. She was a student of class XII. Death of Feli devastated the Kaipeng family completely. His world crumbled. And this December probed to be the cruellest month for him.
Feli was admitted to Teliamura sub divisional hospital with some ailments and she passed away leaving behind her inconsolable parents.
Deeply shocked and saddened at the unexpected twist of life, Nunhsilian plunged into depression. Neighbours too had no word for Nunhsilian and his wife to console.
Meanwhile, Deb Sadhan Jamatia, subzonal chairman of Ampi Nagar went to the house of Nunhsilian and extended financial assistance. But the void in their life is hard to overcome.
