The average monthly income of the farmers of Tripura has increased and the government is relentlessly working towards doubling the farmer’s income, said Agriculture Minister of Tripura Pranajit Singha Roy at Chechua in Karbook Sub-division under Gomati District on Saturday.
Roy inaugurated a Farmers’ Knowledge centre there in presence of MLA Ranjit Das of Amar Pur, MLA Sindhu Chandra Jamatia of Ampi Nagar, Agri superintendent of Ampi Nagar, Kohinoor Debbarma and local leaders.
In an attempt to boost agri production and push up farmers’ earnings, the Agriculture and Farmers’ welfare department has been implementing several State and Central schemes as well as setting up Knowledge Centre in rural areas to disseminate real-time tips and assistance as per the local requirements.
In this connection, he referred to PM Kishan Yojana and said, more than 2.5 lakh farmers of the State were benefitted under the scheme. A total of 10 thousand 575 farmers of the Karbook Sub-division accrued benefits under the PM Kishan Yojana, Singha Roy said.
Inaugurating the Farmers’ Knowledge Centre at Chechua today, the Minister highlighted Government’s emphasis on increasing farmers’ income by augmenting production.
Singha Roy said, we are keen to use modern technology in the agricultural sector to increase productivity. For this, required knowledge has to be disseminated to the farmers so that they can optimally utilize the benefits of technology.
The Minister also stressed the need to generate awareness relating to crop protection, post-harvest management etc – the Knowledge Centre will help the farmers to acquire farming-related knowledge and information.
“The Centre is open to all the farmers. They can hold consultations and seek assistance etc from this Knowledge Centre”, Singha Roy said.
Chechua is one of the villages in Tripura where most of the people are dependent on agriculture and allied activities. “I understand that the Knowledge centre will help the local farming community immensely”, said one Sadhan Jamatia.
