Youths save vulture
With the efforts of two local youths, the life of a vulture, an endangered species of birds was saved in Kalyanpur on Tuesday. The animal-loving youths rescued the bird and handed it over to forest department.
The incident took place at Alepsa of Laxmi Narayanpur Gram Panchayat under Kalyanpur police station.
Sources said, the youths – Sujit Gope and Dipatnu Debnath spotted the sick bird at Alepsa area on the side of Khowai-Teliamura road. Immediately, they rescued the bird and informed Kalyanpur and Khowai forest department personnel.
The forest personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the sick bird. The vulture would be sent to the Sepahijala Zoo after treatment, an official of Kalyanpur forest department told reporters.
According to local people, 3-4 vultures could be found resting on nearby trees and it seems, the vulture slipped off the tree after being ill. Locals as the Forest Department personnel hailed the efforts of Gope and Debnath in saving life of an endangered bird.
Wild bear attack: 15-year old boy hurt
A 15-year-old boy was seriously injured in a wild bear attack in Tripura on Wednesday. The boy went to the jungle to collect grass brooms (Phool Jharu) in Bhagirath Para area of Gandachhara. The injured, Kamal Joy Tripura is a resident of the same area.
According to sources, the face of Kamal was completely scarred in the attack. Hearing his screams, the locals rushed and rescued him. They brought the boy to Gandachhara Sub-Divisional Hospital from where the attending doctor referred him to GB Hospital as his condition was critical.
However, his family Jhumiya by profession does not have the money to take him to Agartala for treatment. Meantime, local people and Gandachhera Range Officer of the Forest Department Niranjan Debnath extended financial help for the treatment of the boy – and, the boy was taken to GB Hospital.
