The Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) department of the Tripura Government will get Rs 100 crore as an incentive grant from the Union Jal Shakti Ministry, said DWS Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.

He said, “As recognition of good works in implementation of ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ in the State during 2021-21, the Union Jal Shakti Ministry sanctioned Rs 100 crore for the State as an incentive grant recently.”

Chairing a high-level review meeting in Agartala on Monday, the DWS Minister monitored the progress of works under ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’.

The DWS department of the Government of Tripura is committed to provide clean drinking water through tap water to every citizen of the state of Tripura under the “Jal Jeevan Project” within 2022. Officials and staff at all levels of the DWS Department are working tirelessly day and night to implement and materialize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Har Ghar Jal” slogan, Chowdhury said.

The Minister further said, “Under the guidance of our popular Prime Minister Narendra Modiji and under the able guidance and management of our Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Dev-ji, we have been working towards the goal of delivering clean drinking water to every citizen of our state by 2022”.

In the meeting, officials of the DWS apprised of the Minister about the progress of the “Jal Jeevan Mission” project. Based on the inputs of the Officials, Chowdhury gave necessary advice and suggestion.

He reiterated the state government set a target of providing purified potable water to every household in the state by December 2022 as part of the implementation of the vision document. For this, every employee and officer of the concerned department has to work with transparency and sincerity in the mission mode.

“The state government is providing all possible assistance to make this mission 100 percent successful”, he said.

Special emphasis should be laid on the completion of government projects undertaken for the welfare of the people within the stipulated time and while maintaining quality.

The meeting also discussed in detail the setting up of Iron Removal Plant (IRP) in different parts of the state to alleviate the problem of iron in water.

Among others, Rajiv Debbarma, the Chief Engineer of the department, all the Superintendent Engineers of the department and Executive Engineers of different divisions were present in today’s meeting.
