Agartala Press Club & Khumulwng Press Club strongly condemned a search operation by Police in the residence of a news channel editor without any search warrant.

 

Police-action-Agartala-Khumulwng-Press-clubs It is alleged police went to the residence of the editor and harassed relatives in the name of search and interrogation, Angshu Debbarma, the president of Khumulwng Press Club said on Saturday.

 

Protesting the alleged search and harassment of the media office and editor’s house by using the police in an unethical manner, a delegation of both the Press Clubs went to the Jirania Police Station, Debbarma said and added, “The members of the delegation met the SP of the west district who was present there and informed him about the whole incident. The team of members had demanded taking legal action against the accused police personnel, or otherwise, it was made clear that the journalists would join the movement in a democratic way in the coming days”.

 

The Agartala Press Club has expressed concern over the incident of harassment of journalists by the police within two weeks in two separate incidents. Pranab Sarkar, secretary of Agartala Press Club, Sourajit Pal, secretary of Tripura Electronics Media Society, Sebak Bhattacharya, General Secretary of FDPMC, Manish Acharjee, Chief editor of Search India, Angshumoy Debbarma, president of Khumulung Press Club, Ranjit Debbarma, Secretary of Khumulwng Press Club, Haniph Ali, editor of Rising Tripura, and other delegates were present during the meeting.   

 

According to Angshu Debbarma, Police of Champaknagar outpost and a person working in the forensic lab Miss/Mrs. Manika Debbarma is involved in fuelling this immoral act.

 

Agartala Press Club secretary Pranab Sarkar said, “the SP of West district has promised to take action within three days. If no step is taken within three days, the next decision will be taken by Khumulwng Press Club in collaboration with Agartala press club”.
