The students’ body of the opposition Congress – NSUI of Tripura State committee alleged that the state education department was depriving the students of their scholarships.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday morning the NSUI state president Samrat Roy alleged that the government had been depriving over 1000 students across the state from their scholarships.
“The students have been facing difficult times due to the non-payment of the scholarships meant for them by the government. As a result a large section of students, especially those from the rural areas, are unable to pay their college and other fees,” Roy stated.
He said, “The students have not yet received their scholarships of the previous year due to the negligence of the government. We want the government to immediately release the scholarships; otherwise the NSUI will launch a massive movement and gherao the school education department in near future.”
The NSUI leader also accused the government over the Mission Vidyajyoti school project and alleged, “In the name of Mission Vidyajyoti despite the government’s statement that it is a free education project, the government has been collecting huge amount of fees from the students.”
“The government is simply playing with the students’ fraternity in the name of this project and turned the education system into a farce,” he alleged.
He also targeted the education department over scheduling the Law entrance examinations on the day of Eid-ul-adha on July 10. “How the education department could be so negligent towards such serious issues, where exams are being scheduled on the day of a public holiday?”
“Although government had changed the schedule of the law entrance examination due to the protest of the NSUI, we still demand a proper enquiry into such serious negligence of the education department,” he said.
