Bharatiya Janata Party observed August 14 as the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in Tripura. On this day in 1947, undivided India was divided into three parts – India, Pakistan and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). The partition led to the largest human displacement.

Condemning the decision to divide the undivided India and recalling the unspeakable miseries of people, the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day was observed by the BJP workers of Bishalgarh in Tripura today (Sunday Aug 14).

A silent procession was held to mark the Day. Several BJP leaders including party’s State vice president Rajiv Bhattacharjee and others took part in the silent procession.

After the procession, BJP leaders said the current generation must remain aware about the unbelievable sacrifices of the fore fathers.

Millions of people including elderly people and children faced unspeakable distresses while fleeing from Bangladesh and Pakistan to save their lives and religions. Many died while others were barely able to take refuge in different States in India including in Tripura.

Re-settlement process was not easy either. Couple of generations had to struggle – this fact must not be forgotten, BJP leaders asserted.

In the procession, participants displayed several photographs depicting the miseries of helpless people.

Meantime, the State Bank of India, Agartala Branch organized an exhibition commemorating the ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ in Agartala on Sunday.

The exhibition highlighted the sufferings and agony of millions of people during the partition through photographs taken at that time and paper clippings.

Speaking on the occasion, Shyam Dhar Dubey, Assistant General Manager of SBI Agartala said, paper cuttings of that time and photographs relating to the partition have been displayed in the exhibition to commemorate Remembrance Day”.

He added this year’s program was a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
