Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha refuted the allegation raised Opposition parties regarding the prevailing law and order situation in the State and commented Tripura has recorded marked decline in crime rates compared to 2018 when the BJP-led Government came to power.
The Chief Minister, who also holds the charge of Home Department, chaired a meeting on Wednesday (Nov 9) with the police officials including Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabh Ranjan, Superintendent of Police from every district, SDPOs and other officers at the police headquarters in Agartala to review the situation.
Expressing satisfaction at the prevailing situation, “I am happy with the report presented by the District Superintendents of Police on law and order in the meeting”.
Dr Saha said, law and order is one of the parameters of development in any state and to this end, Tripura is in much better situation compared to other states. I have ordered to ensure that the law and order does not deteriorate anywhere in the run up to the upcoming elections.
Adducing data, the Chief Minister said, crime graph in Tripura is showing significant decline compared to the 2018 when BJP formed the Government.
Dr Saha praised the role of the Police for maintaining law and order condition effectively and efficiently. He, however cautioned that in the run up to the Assembly Polls Opposition Parties may try to disrupt peace in the State.
Deterioration of law and order will not be tolerated. Poor law and order situation will hamper the development, he asserted. . The Chief Minister also directed the Officers to work to the same momentum so that peace prevails.
During the meeting, Police Officers also highlighted several issues and problems. Assuring them, the Chief Minister said Government will ponder over the issues mentioned and if necessary, State government will consult the Union Government to address the issues. He reiterated steps will be taken to strengthen the Tripura Police.
