Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, today said around 60,000 youth will be trained under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 in Tripura as a part of Skill India Mission launched this week to augment skilling efforts.

Under the programme, courses and skill training efforts focusing on future-ready skills with Industry backed job opportunities ranging from AI, and blockchain to mobile repairing, vehicle maintenance and management will be introduced for the youth.

“Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi is building New India with re-imagined ambitions and aspirations for the young Indians. There are multiple opportunities available today and therefore skills become important to take advantage of these opportunities. Skills are the new Passport to Prosperity”, he said.  

He also said in line with the Hon’ble PM’s vision of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, the next wave of startups and entrepreneurs must come from Agartala and other parts of North East India. “India today is at an inflexion point, it is entering into its Techade and the future of India is technology. To capitalise on this opportunity, skill training is essential,” he added. 

Tripura has four PMKVY kendras and 24 training centres and 20 Government ITIs and 2 JSS centre in the state. Through customised courses, special projects will be launched to ensure high employability—especially in Green jobs, food processing, Textiles, Electronics leather, Rubber and sports etc. Already, 25,367 people have been trained in projects under earlier PMKVY programmes. 

Expansion of Skill Hubs will be undertaken in government schools, engineering and general colleges, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in a greater number of educational institutions and within industry premises, so that a greater number of youths can access skilling using the existing infrastructure. 

IIE NEC Care Giving Centre, Agartala, Tripura, School of Communication, Logistics and Waterways, Ministry of Ports and Shipping, Agartala, Tripura, Bamboo Mission, Common Facility Centre Tripura, Tripura University( CU). MBB University (state-owned) and  ICFAI University (Pvt) are the proposed hubs & training centres in the state under PMKVY 4.0.

Skilling measures are planned to be taken for certifying persons engaged in traditional art and craft, to cover Scheduled Tribes, Divyangjans, Transgenders, rural artisan groups under various skilling interventions in both short- and long-term training programmes.
