Left Front is fighting to cast out BJP from power in Tripura as well from the centre, said CPIM Politburo leader Manik Sarkar in Agartala.
Soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi left Tripura after addressing two poll rallies in the State, the CPIM leader held a press conference and commented that the objective of the CPIM-led Left Front is to drive out the saffron party from power, not just in the State, but from the Centre as well.
Addressing a press conference in Agartala on Saturday (Feb 11), Manik Sarkar pointed several ‘holes’ in the speeches of the Prime Minister at the two rallies.
“The Prime Minister did not utter a single word relating party’s failure in providing 50,000 jobs per annum as promised in the Vision document”, Sarkar said and also mentioned BJP’s failure in implementing the 7th Pay Scale for the State Government employees which was one of the promises made in the Vision document prior to the 2018 polls.
“Both of these pre-poll promises lured the youths as well as motivated the State Government employees to vote for the BJP – however, they were deprived and deceived”, Sarkar alleged.
On Prime Minister’s claim regarding development of HIRA – Highways, I-ways, Railways and Airways – Sarkar claimed those development activities were started by the Left Front government after prolonged struggle.
Sarkar also turned down the Prime Minister’s claim that there was lack of democracy during the Left Front regime and said if his claim was true, how BJP could win the 2018 Assembly polls.
“The democracy suffered during the last five years of the BJP. Large scale poll-rigging, violence against the Opposition party leaders and supporters – democracy was throttled”, alleged Sarkar.
Notably, Manik Sarkar, the ex-Chief Minister and incumbent Opposition leader, is not contesting in the Assembly polls this time. Even as Left Front leaders are silent on the issue of the Chief Ministerial candidate of the Congress-CPIM alliance – the Congress leaders, including the Leader of the Lok Sabha and West Bengal Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury confirmed Jitendra Choudhury as the Chief Ministerial face of the alliance.
