Tripura Pradesh BJP lambasted the leftists and highlighted incidences of post-poll violence during the Left Front regime in Tripura.
BJP leaders alleged that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) killed 11 BJP workers in the state during 2016-17.
State president of BJP, Rajib Bhattacharjee, addressed the media in Agartala on Friday (April 21) saying that people in the state are aware of the brutal incidents that occurred after polls during the Left and Congress-TUJS regimes.
Bhattacharjee’s reaction came after CPIM leaders submitted a deputation to the Chief Minister on the state-wide violence reported after the announcement of the Assembly poll results on March 2, 2023.
He showed several newspaper cuttings from the past, pointing out that it was not allegations by the BJP but the media reported about the atrocities and terror unleashed after polls in different years.
The BJP leader also claimed that opposition party workers during the LF regime were fleeing away from their homes owing to the post-poll violence by the supporters of CPIM.
Bhattacharjee also mentioned the reign of terror during the Congress-TUJS regime, where Shyamhari Sharma of the BJP was killed.
He questioned how CPIM and Congress leaders could think that people have forgotten everything.
The BJP leader also referred to the killings of several communist leaders and supporters during the Congress-TUJS alliance period which CPIM leaders very often highlighted during its regime and tried to fool the people.
Taking a jibe at leftists, he said that the political strength of CPIM reached such a low level at present that they had to join hands with Congress, whom CPIM accused of killing its party workers, to fight against BJP in the election.
However, even such an alliance could not save the leftists as they slipped down to the third position in the state and eventually lost the status of the main opposition.
Bhattacharjee highlighted several mass killings that took place during the CPIM and Congress-TUJS regimes, including the mass killing at Twidu, Jarulbachhai, and other places.
Listing out incidences of murders in the past, the BJP State president said it does not suit them to talk about violence when people helplessly witnessed the murder of different leaders, including the then Health Minister Bimal Sinha.
The accusations and counter-accusations relating to the post-poll violence by the political parties in Tripura have intensified after the announcement of Assembly poll results in March 2023.
However, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha made it clear that the government will not tolerate violence and accordingly gave instructions to the Police department to take steps against the miscreants.
