ProMASS News Bureau: Sep 06, 2016: Agitated farmers and activists belonging to pro-Kannada outfits today blocked Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway in Karnataka. Protests intensified following Supreme Court directive to the State on release of 15,000 cusecs of Cauvery water in next 10 days to Tamil Nadu. Security personnel, including Central forces, were deployed in the Cauvery belt to maintain law and order. In Mandya district shops, hotels and commercial establishments were downed their shutters and theaters suspended their shows.
Schools and colleges were declared holiday. Thin attendance were reported in the Government offices in the District. Prohibitory orders have been clamped around Krishnarajasagar Dam and visitors entry is also prohibited till September 9. Protest also held in Mysuru and Hassan districts, Meanwhile, the government appealed to the people not to resort to agitation and to maintain calm.
Tension also continued at KRS Reservoir, when hundreds of farmers and BJP workers tried to lay siege the dam. Additional police force was also deployed to the kabini, Harangi and Hemavathy reservoirs in the State as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah convened an all party meeting in Bengaluru which is under way in Vidhana Soudha to decide the future of the government on this issue.
