Prominent Twitch streamer Kai Cenat, along with fellow streamer Fanum, were apprehended by authorities due to a promotional giveaway event that led to a gathering of people at Union Square in New York City.
Kai Cenat, renowned for his substantial following on Twitch and social media, was among the individuals taken into custody on Friday evening, according to a report by NBC 4.
The New York Police Department’s Chief of Department, Jeffrey Maddrey, confirmed the arrests, refraining from disclosing further particulars.
The situation escalated as some members of the crowd displayed violent behavior, prompting law enforcement to intervene and ultimately declare the assembly unlawful.
Cenat, who had earlier invited his online supporters to Union Square for a distribution of free PlayStation consoles and gift cards, was subsequently removed from the park.
The incident necessitated an extensive police response, showcasing the highest level of mobilization by the NYPD.
Amidst the sizeable gathering, officers managed to extract Cenat from the throng, where he engaged in discussions with several officials.
Preliminary assessments from the police department indicated that around 65 individuals were detained, including 30 described as juveniles.
Cenat, a Twitch streamer and YouTuber who has been generating online content since 2018, enjoys the distinction of being the most-subscribed Twitch streamer in history, amassing over 100,000 subscribers. (Edited)
