The Land Port of Sabroom-Anandapara is likely to become operational as preparations are underway to initiate the immigration process from September 1 next.

This significant step will enable passport holders from both India and Bangladesh to traverse between the two nations via this land port.

A meeting convened at the Sabroom Nagar Panchayat Hall marked a crucial milestone in this endeavor. The meeting was graced by Saju Waheed, the District Magistrate of South District. The green light received from the Ministry of External Affairs of India served as the impetus to commence the immigration procedures at this land port.

Distinguished personalities present during the meeting included Bidhan Chandra Roy, Sabroom Sub-Divisional Magistrate; Raspal Singh, BSF Commandant of No. 96 Battalion; Debashish Nandi, Chairman of Land and Customs; Pranesh Dhar, Customs Superintendent; Rama Poddar Dey, Chairperson of Sabroom Nagar Panchayat; and various other officials from the Sub-Divisional Administration of Sabroom.

Critical infrastructural prerequisites such as electricity and water services have been identified for launching the immigration operations. In tandem with this, the land port must meticulously manage drainage services, ensure ample potable water, and deliver reliable electricity services.

Given that the Sabroom land port falls under the jurisdiction of the Sabroom Nagar Panchayat, extensive deliberations addressing these concerns took place. Matters related to the drinking water pump house and the internal electrical system within the ICP’s boundary wall were also subjects of discussion.

In a subsequent interaction with the media, Saju Wahid conveyed that the initial phase would encompass the initiation of immigration services, slated to begin on September 1 next.

However, cargo services will not be initiated during this phase. The objective of the current meeting was to enhance several infrastructural facets of the Sabroom land port prior to launching the immigration services.

He further added that the meeting yielded constructive outcomes, as the immigration process at the Sabroom land port is poised to commence after a substantial duration.
