Tourism Minister of Tripura Sushanta Chowdhury revealed that both domestic and international tourism to the state has been steadily on the rise each year. This statement was made during a significant meeting held at the Secretariat in which Chowdhury presided over discussions with representatives from the Archeological Survey of India (ASI).
During the meeting, the Minister emphasized the substantial untapped potential within Tripura’s tourism sector. He reiterated the commitment of the current state government to harness this potential by focusing on enhancing infrastructure and amenities at various tourist destinations across the state.
One noteworthy step in this direction, as detailed by the Tourism Minister, is the establishment of a dedicated ASI circle office. This initiative is aimed at facilitating better management and preservation of archaeological and cultural sites.
Chowdhury also urged ASI officials to prioritize the comfort and convenience of tourists, suggesting the introduction of amenities such as a cafeteria at the Unakoti site.
Tapan Kumar Das, the Director of Tourism, added that comprehensive plans are already in motion to amplify the appeal of Tripura’s tourist locations. Presently, eight prominent sites in Tripura fall under the jurisdiction of ASI’s Aizawl division.
These sites include Unakoti, Chaturdash Devata Temple, Gunabati Temple, Bhubaneswari Temple, Shyamsundar Ashram Tilla of Jolaibari, Pujakhola, Thakur Rani Tilla of West Pilak, and the Boxanagar site.
The deliberations at the meeting also included the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, underlining the state’s commitment to holistic and sustainable tourism development.
Notable figures present at the meeting included U.K. Chakma, the Secretary of Tourism; administrative officials from various departments; and Prasanna Kumar Dikshit, the Superintendent of ASI’s Aizawl circle. The discussions reflected the collective dedication to further nurturing Tripura’s tourism sector for future growth.
