As it was witnessed, away from the by-poll battleground, former Chief Minister and CPIM Politburo leader Manik Sarkar spewed venom at the BJP-led Central government for ‘joining hands’ with the corporate sector.
He termed this as an attempt to snatch the rights of the working-class people of the country.
Sarkar launched a scathing attack on the Central Government while addressing a party gathering – not in any of the by-polls by assembly constituencies – but in Agartala on Wednesday. The State Committee of the CITU organized the meeting close on the heels of a joint convention of the CITU and Samjukta Kisan Morcha which was held in New Delhi.
As the red flag and slogan-shouting leftists were marching through the city roads, one may wonder, why the CPIM and frontal wings are not conducting such rallies in by-poll bound Dhanpur and Boxanagar. Are they not holding such rallies for strategic purposes or something else is there?
Meantime while addressing the gathering Sarkar referred to the decisions taken in the convention and said convention aimed at strengthening campaigns against the BJP governments at various States and the Centre.
In his speech, Sarkar blamed the BJP government for depriving the farmers and the working class people of safeguarding the interest of the corporate sector.
Continuing his diatribe, the CPIM leader alleged, “Over the past several years, it has been observed that MPs belonging to the ruling government have attempted to silence opposition MPs in the Parliament who bring up the challenges like rising unemployment, decreasing job security, and increasing prices of essential goods faced by workers and laborers.
Sarkar said it is necessary to dethrone the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls for the sake of interests of the working-class people and farmers of the country. He suggested organizing strong movements against the saffron party.
Manik Sarkar, however, did not say anything about the alliance with the Congress in the fight against the BJP. He also did not mention that the Leftists labeled the same allegation of ‘corporate nepotism’ against foe-turned-into-friend Congress when the latter was in power.
Moreover, the CITU held the meeting in Agartala – but many believe that such a meeting would be more beneficial for the Red Party if leaders would choose places at by-poll bound Dhanpur and Boxanagar.
Leftists’ selection of a place for firing verbal salvos at the BJP sparked speculations and curiosity among a section of people regarding the possible outcome of the by-poll results.
