Voting through Postal ballots by the senior citizens and others eligible ended for the Dhanpur and Boxanagar Assembly constituencies on Thursday.

Amidst high decibel campaigns by the rival political parties, personnel engaged in election process went to the houses of voters of 80 years and above and Divyanga voters who applied to avail of the Postal ballot voting facility.

Sources said, there are total 227 senior citizens of 80 years or above and 56 divyanga voters in the Boxanagar Assembly Constituency. Among them, 221 senior citizens cast their votes through postal ballots whereas 55 divyanga voters exercised their democratic rights using the facility.

In Dhanpur Assembly constituency has 286 electorates who are 80 years old or above and 45 Divyanga voters. Out of this, 277 senior citizens availed the facility and cast votes and 41 divyanga voters exercised their democratic rights through postal ballots.

Besides, voting through postal ballots for the personnel engaged in election processes, drivers and Police personnel will come to end on Friday.   

Regarding the postal ballot facility, ECISVEEP website read, “…when voters cannot physically reach the Polling Station, the Polling Station will reach out to them! From enrollment to election, the Election Commission of India leaves no stone unturned in ensuring that no voter is left behind. It is in the pursuit of this endeavour that the facility of Postal Ballot was extended to PwD electors, senior citizens above the age of 80 years, officers on essential election duty as notified by the Commission and COVID-19 positive patients”.
