Bangladesh witnessed a concerning surge in dengue cases on Wednesday as the Health Ministry reported 3,015 new infections and a record-breaking 21 fatalities in a single day. This marked the highest daily death toll attributed to dengue this year.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health, this spike has pushed the total number of dengue cases in the country to a staggering 176,810, with the death toll for the year surpassing 850. Notably, this marks the highest daily death toll since September 2, when the DGHS previously reported 21 fatalities.

Breaking down the data provided by DGHS, September alone has seen 53,002 new dengue cases, following 71,976 in August and 43,854 in July. The cumulative death toll includes 274 fatalities in September, 342 in August, and 204 in July.

In a somewhat hopeful note, the DGHS reported that 165,680 patients have successfully recovered from dengue this year, with an additional 2,833 individuals recovering in the last 24 hours.

Bangladesh is currently in the midst of the monsoon season, which typically witnesses a surge in dengue fever cases. The country is considered to be at high risk for this mosquito-borne disease.

The Health Ministry and DGHS continue to take measures to control the dengue outbreak, urging the public to take precautions and seek medical attention promptly if they exhibit symptoms of the disease. (Edited)
