Veteran CPIM Politburo leader and ex-Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar came down heavily on ruling BJP on several issues.

Sarkar raked up the recent ‘baby selling’ owing to alleged financial distress by a father belonging to indigenous community and flayed the ruling party at Kumarghat in Unakoti district of Tripura on Thursday.

Sarkar while speaking at a public rally in Kumarghat today took a swipe at the Central and State governments alleging uptick in unemployment and prices of essentials etc. He also slammed the government on the issue of MGNREGA wages and hike in power tariff.

Targeting Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, the CPIM leader alleged when everything is okay according to the Chief Minister, people are riddled with severe financial distress and facing hardships in arranging a square meal. In this connection, the CPIM leader also pointed out that unable to tolerate financial distress, a helpless father sold his new born baby.

Sarkar alleged that the state government is doing nothing to address the problems of unemployment, rising prices, and electricity tariff hikes.

Continuing his tirade against the ruling party, the CPIM leader also accused the State government of turning Tripura into a drug den. He alleged, under the Nesha Mukt Tripura, the ruling party is converting the State into a drug den.

He also lashed out at the government over the unemployment issue.

Others present at the meeting included former MLA and former minister Tapan Chakraborty, CPIM district secretary Mintu Chandra Das, and former MLA Samiran Malakar.

Political experts believe that the CPIM stepped up ante against the ruling party in its desparate bid to regain its presence in Tripura ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
