In a thrilling cricket match, Tripura University emerged as the best in the Northeast.
The Tripura University’s cricket team clinched a nail-biting victory over Guwahati University by a narrow margin of 5 runs in the final match of the North East Zone Inter-University Men’s Cricket Tournament held at Rajiv Gandhi University in Arunachal Pradesh.
The match, held on Wednesday, saw Tripura University winning the toss and electing to bat first. The team put up a commendable score of 156 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Tanmoy Das’s brilliant batting played a pivotal role in Tripura’s impressive score. Das scored a quick fire 52 runs off 41 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes.
Adding to the team’s total, Bipen Kumar Sharma remained unbeaten with a score of 26 runs off just 11 balls, including 2 fours and 2 sixes. Arkaprabha Sinha also contributed a handy 23 runs off 24 balls, including 2 fours and 1 six.
Guwahati University’s bowlers, Prasher Changmai and Jaideep Singh, managed to take 2 wickets each, giving away 24 and 31 runs respectively.
In response, Guwahati University fell short of the target by 5 runs and managed to score only 151 runs before being bowled out in 19.4 overs. Kokil K Gogai top-scored for the team with 34 runs off 18 balls. His innings included 2 fours and 3 sixes. Gaurav Saikiya and Jaideep Singh also made significant contributions with scores of 27 and 29 runs respectively.
However, the star of the match was undoubtedly Arkajit Roy of Tripura University. Roy single-handedly demolished the Guwahati University batting line-up, taking an impressive 6 wickets for just 19 runs. His exceptional performance earned him the well-deserved Man of the Match award.
