After trailing in the first innings, Tripura registered a stunning 156-run victory over Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday – thanks to Parvez Sultan’s vicious spin bowling after solid batting performance by Bikram Das, Manishankar Murasing and Shankar Pal.
After being bundled out for 146 in their first innings, Tripura fought back to restrict Gujarat to 172 in reply. They then posted a challenging 343 in their second innings, setting Gujarat a target of 318.
Chasing a target of 318 runs, the Tripura bowlers started attacking the opposition wickets from the very beginning. Rana Dutta struck the first blow for Tripura. Thereafter, Gujarat kept losing wickets. Gujarat were eventually bowled out for 161 runs in 52.3 overs.
For Gujarat, SA Desai scored 47 off 55 balls with 7 boundaries and 1 over boundary, Umang scored 37 off 55 balls with 3 boundaries and 1 over boundary, Het Patel scored 30 off 67 balls with 4 boundaries, and Sunpreet Baga scored 24 off 69 balls with 3 boundaries.
For Tripura, Shridam Pal took 3 wickets for 16 runs, Parvej Sultan took 3 wickets for 58 runs, and Shankar Pal took 2 wickets for 46 runs. Parvez took total 10 wickets in the match.
Tripura won by 156 runs. Pervez Sultan adjudged Man of the Match. Tripura to play next match against Chandigarh on February 9-12.
After today’s victory, Tripura secured the third position in the Elite Group C with 14 points from 5 matches. Karnataka and Tamilnadu are the top two teams.
