Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, a member of BJP’s core committee in the State, was warmly welcomed with cheers and applause as he arrived at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala on Tuesday. His nomination as the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from West Tripura district has been met with enthusiasm.
State BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee stated that the decision to nominate Biplab Deb was made by the senior party leadership during the party’s National Convention in Delhi in February. Biplab Kumar Deb served as the chief minister for 4.2 years until he was succeeded by incumbent Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. He currently serves as a Rajya Sabha MP from Tripura.
Upon his arrival, Deb expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response from the crowd, which included thousands of fans, supporters, and followers. He later addressed a press conference at the state BJP headquarters, where he reminisced about his early days in the party in 2015, describing them as “struggling.”
“I am overwhelmed by the love and affection received from the masses. This is the support and love that established the BJP government in Tripura, and people created history in 2018,” Deb said.
Notably, BJP ended CPIM’s 25 successive years long era in Tripura and came into power in 2018. Biplab Kumar Deb was the first BJP Chief Minister in Tripura.
He urged the people of Tripura to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls to maintain the momentum of development. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party has transformed the state in these few years. Your support is my strength, and with the guidance of the party leadership, I will work for the overall welfare of the people,” he added.
Deb also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National president JP Nadda, and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, among others. State BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee, party spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty, and party’s general secretary Amit Rakshit were also present at the press conference.
Earlier, BJP supporters in bikes held a rally with Deb cheering the crowd. Later, he went to Mata Tripura Sundari temple in Udaipur and paid his obeisance.
