Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Minister of Tripura Sushanta Chowdhury informed the media that the supply and stock of essential commodities including petrol and diesel in the state is satisfactory.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, he said due to heavy rains on April 26 in the Jatinga-Lamphur area of the Lumding-Badarpur section of the Northeast Frontier Railway, the import of various essential items including petroleum products by rail to the state was disrupted for several days. In this situation, a temporary rationing system was introduced in the state for selling petrol and diesel from May 1. At that time, various essential commodities including petrol, diesel and food items were also imported by road with the cooperation of the IOC.

The Food Minister said the normal situation has returned in the problematic area of the railway after the repair of the railway line. As a result, the restrictions imposed by the state government on the sale of petrol and diesel in the state have been withdrawn. There is currently a sufficient stock of petrol and diesel in the state.

He said the present daily average demand for petrol and diesel in the state is 275 kiloliters and 365 kiloliters respectively. At present, a total of 1,700 kiloliters of petrol and 2,726 kiloliters of diesel are stocked in various petrol pumps including IOC’s Dharmanagar depot in the state.

The Food Minister further said FCI is importing essential commodities to the state normally after the resumption of rail movement.

Among others, Secretary in charge of the Department of Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Anindya Bhattacharya, Director of Food Department Nirmal Adhikari and Additional Director Animesh Debbarma were present.
