The Budget session of the Tripura Assembly is set to commence on Friday (March 21). Along with the budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, several important bills and reports will be tabled during the session.
According to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Finance, Planning, and Coordination Minister Pranajit Singha Roy will present the 2025-26 budget on the first day of the session.
BAC Finalized Tripura Budget session schedule
Ratan Lal Nath, who also holds the Agriculture and Power portfolios, stated that the schedule for the budget session was finalized in a recent Business Advisory Committee meeting, chaired by Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen.
The meeting was attended by several ministers, ruling party MLAs, Leader of Opposition (LOP) Jitendra Chaudhury, and Congress MLA Birajit Sinha. The session will have seven sittings and will continue until April 1.
Longest Assembly Session in 15 Years
Highlighting the significance of the session, Nath said, “The Tripura Assembly session would be the longest in 15 years. The government aims for detailed and in-depth discussions on the budget and other key issues.”
He emphasized that both treasury and opposition members are encouraged to actively participate in the budget discussions and debates on other critical matters.
This will be the second session of the Tripura Assembly in 2025. The first session, a three-day session, was held from January 10.
Recent Salary Hike for MLAs and Ministers
In the previous session, the Assembly passed a bill increasing the salaries and allowances of the Chief Minister, Ministers, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Leader of Opposition (LOP), Chief Whip, and MLAs by 81 to 92 percent.
According to the bill, Chief Minister’s salary increased to ₹97,000 while Deputy Chief Minister’s salary hike to ₹96,000 and other Ministers, Speaker, LOP, Chief Whip’s salary increased to ₹95,000. Deputy Speaker’s salary raised to ₹94,000 and for MLAs, it is hiked to ₹93,000
Additionally, the bill ensures that MLAs will receive full retirement benefits even if they served for just a single day in the Assembly.
With the upcoming session expected to be more extensive, key legislative and financial discussions are likely to shape Tripura’s governance and policy-making for the next fiscal year.
