Agartala (Tripura): The birth anniversary of rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was observed with due reverence across different subdivisions of the state on Monday.
Kumarghat: In the Kumarghat subdivision, the celebration took place at Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat. The event titled “Srijone Chhonde Anandey” was organized jointly by the Sub-Divisional Information and Cultural Office and the Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat. The programme was inaugurated by Amalendu Das, Chairperson of the Unakoti Zilla Parishad.
In his speech, he stated that both Rabindranath and Nazrul are poets of our consciousness and intellect. Through his writings, Nazrul instilled patriotic fervor among the masses and inspired them toward the fight for independence. Nazrul was truly the people’s poet.
Other speakers at the event included retired teacher Jadulal Roy. The welcome address was delivered by senior information officer Subhasish Sengupta. The event was presided over by Bhuvan Sinha, Deputy Chief of Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat. Among those present were Anjali Sinha (Unakoti Zilla Parishad member), Nipul Das (Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti member), Rajib Dey (Chief of Toraninagar Gram Panchayat), and noted social worker Tarunkanti Das. Later, artists performed Nazrul Geeti (songs), dance, and recitations.
Kamalpur: In Kamalpur, the Sub-Divisional Information and Cultural Office and Kamalpur Nagar Panchayat jointly celebrated Nazrul’s birth anniversary at Syed Chowmuhani in Baligaon. Chairperson of Kamalpur Nagar Panchayat Prashanta Sinha, along with senior information officer Amrit Das and representatives from various cultural organizations, paid floral tributes to the poet’s portrait. Guests discussed Nazrul’s life and ideals in detail, followed by performances of Nazrul Geeti and dances by local artists.
Teliamura: The Sub-Divisional Information and Cultural Office of Teliamura organized the celebration at Kabi Nazrul Vidyabhavan. Floral tributes were offered by Teliamura Municipal Council Chairperson Rupak Sarkar, Vice Chairperson Madhusudan Roy, Vice Chairman of Teliamura Panchayat Samiti Nirmal Sutradhar, and senior information officer Mithun Dutta. Dignitaries spoke on the poet’s life, literary contributions, and patriotic spirit. Students performed Nazrul songs, dances, and recitations. On this occasion, fruits and sweets were distributed among patients at the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital.
Udaipur: At Rajarshi Hall in Udaipur, the birth anniversary celebration organized by the Sub-Divisional Information and Cultural Office was inaugurated by Gomati Zilla Parishad Chairperson Debol Debroy. In his address, he remarked that Nazrul symbolizes humanity and nationalism, and his thoughts united Indians in the freedom movement.
MLA Jitendra Majumder, Udaipur Municipal Council Chairperson Sheetal Chandra Majumder, and Deputy Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department Ajay Dey were among the other speakers. The event began with floral tributes to the poet’s portrait by the guests.

Shantirbazar: Nazrul’s birth anniversary was observed at the Jolai Bari Community Hall under the initiative of the Sub-Divisional Information and Cultural Office. Dignitaries including Jolai Bari Panchayat Samiti Chairman Tapas Dutta, Shantirbazar Municipal Council Vice Chairperson Satyabrata Saha, South Tripura Zilla Parishad member Shambhu Manik, and noted social worker Sujit Dutta paid homage to the poet and spoke on the significance of the occasion. The event was presided over by Nepal Chandra Das, Chair of the Standing Committee on Sports and Culture of Shantirbazar Municipal Council. Local artists performed Nazrul songs, poetry recitations, and dances.
Sabroom: The celebration in Sabroom was jointly organized by the Sub-Divisional Information and Cultural Office and Sabroom Nagar Panchayat at Nazrul Park. The event was inaugurated by Nagar Panchayat Chairperson Rama Poddar Dey. Among others present were Satchand Panchayat Samiti Chairman Prabhas Lodh, Nagar Panchayat members Bakul Rani Das and Anjali Basak, renowned social worker Tapas Lodh, and writer Ashokananda Roy Bardhan. The event was presided over by Nagar Panchayat member Ranjit Roy Choudhury. Local artists performed Nazrul Geeti, poetry recitations, and dances.
