Agartala (Tripura) May 27, 2025: Supreme Court Collegium recommends Tripura High Court Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh for appointment as Chief Justice of Telangana High Court, part of a major judicial reshuffle across India.

In a major judicial development, Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, the current Chief Justice of Tripura High Court, has been recommended for appointment as the next Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court.

He is the 8th Chief Justice of Tripura High Court.

Justice Ramachandra Rao, currently Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court, has been proposed for transfer to the Tripura High Court to succeed Justice Singh.

Justice Aparesh Singh, originally from the Jharkhand High Court, has made notable contributions to Tripura’s legal system. With his extensive experience and judicial insight, he is now set to take over the reins of the Telangana High Court, sources said.

The recommendation is part of a broad reshuffle initiated by the Supreme Court collegium, chaired by Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai.

The five-member collegium—which includes Justices Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, J.K. Maheshwari, and B.V. Nagarathna—engaged in a five-hour-long deliberation before finalizing a comprehensive list of judicial appointments and transfers for submission to the Union Government.

This round of recommendations features the elevation of three judges to the Supreme Court, the appointment of five new High Court Chief Justices, and the transfer of four Chief Justices along with 22 High Court judges across the country.

Meanwhile, Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan from the Himachal Pradesh High Court has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court.

During his tenure in Tripura, Justice Aparesh Singh was known for his swift judicial processes and impactful judgments that significantly shaped the legal framework of the state.

His upcoming leadership role in Telangana is anticipated to uphold the same standards of judicial integrity and commitment to constitutional values.

Earlier IANS reported, in a development on Monday, the Supreme Court Collegium on Monday (May 26) made recommendations to the Centre regarding the appointments of Chief Justices of the High Courts of Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gauhati, Patna, and Jharkhand.

The SC Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai, recommended that Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva be appointed as Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Last week, the Centre issued a notification regarding the appointment of Justice Sachdeva as Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh HC after Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait retired on May 23.

“In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, to perform the duties of office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from 24.05.2025 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Suresh Kumar Kait, Chief Justice, Madhya Pradesh High Court on 23.05.2025,” said a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice on May 22.

The apex court Collegium on Monday also recommended that Justice Vibhu Bakhru of the Delhi High Court be appointed as Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.

Justice N.V. Anjaria, the incumbent Chief Justice of Karnataka HC, has been recommended to be appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court.

Further, the top court Collegium recommended that Justice Ashutosh Kumar of the Patna High Court be appointed as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. Justice Vijay Bishnoi, presently functioning as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, has been recommended to be elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court.

In its statement, the SC Collegium resolved to recommend that Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi be appointed as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. Further, it recommended that Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, currently serving in the Himachal Pradesh High Court, be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, consequent upon the transfer of the incumbent Chief Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao.
