Tripura celebrates World Environment Day – WED 2025 – with a call to ‘beat plastic pollution’. Rallies, tree plantations, and awareness drives were held.  Tripura Governor and others urged people to protect the environment.

Agartala (Tripura) June 5: Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, on the World Environment Day (WED) on June 5, urged people to stop single-plastic uses and protect greenary for pollution free ambience.

Notably, ‘beat plastic pollution‘ is the theme of WED 2025.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha planted ‘Bakul’ sapling at Kumarghat Gitanjali Auditorium premises today highlighting the commitment of preserving the environment.

The World Environment Day has been observed in Agartala and other parts of the State through different programs organised by Government departments, NGOs, NSS volunteers and several other private organisations.

Commemorating the World Environment Day (WED), Tripura Governor participated in a tree plantation initiative in the Raj Bhavan in Agartala today.

Taking part in another event, organized jointly by the Tripura Pollution Control Board and Department of Science and Technology, Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma made a clarion call to people to safeguard the environment.

He strongly pitched for collective community initiatives to stop environmental degradation for the sake of well-being of the society.

Several organisations including NSS volunteers etc took part in a rally highlighting importance of protecting the greenary and environment.

The Minister extended his greetings on the WED and said observance of this Day offers us a chance to elevate public awareness relating to protection and preservation environment.

It is important to understand that a failure on our part will affect entire human civilization. Debbarma urged people to take effective steps for a cleaner, healthy and greener environment to a healthy future.

In this connection, he emphasized forest conservation which plays a crucial role in maintaining environmental and ecological balance. The Minister highlighted the need for put emphasis on sustainable practices to preserve the nature’s balance.

He also pointed out that protecting the environment is not just the responsibility of the government alone, rather it needs a concerted community efforts.

“Plant more trees and shun uses of plastics and other such products which are harmful for a healthy environment”, the Forest Minister urged.

Alongwith protecting the forests, Animesh Debbarma also urged people to preserve the catchment areas. He pointed out, preserving the catchment areas are crucial to avoid frequent flooding.

The Minister concluded by appealing to the people to take a pledge on this occasion — to plant trees, reduce plastic usage, and join hands in preserving the natural beauty of Tripura.

As part of the WED observance, a bi-cycle rally was organized in Agartala to celebrate World Environment Day on June 5. Techno India University, Tripura and Tripura bio-diversity Board organized the bi-cycle rally in which people including children enthusiastically took part.

The bi-cycle rally on the World Environment Day aims at creating awareness among the people regarding the burden of pollution on community health and environment.

With a call to adopt cycle as a mode of transport, the rally urges people to take steps to lessen pollution and ensure a healthy future for the next generation.

Tripura Pradesh Congress led by party’s State chief Asish Saha also observed the day and highlighted growing needs of protecting the environment to control pollution and erratic weather.

The World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year since 1973.
