Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted transformation of Tripura under BJP leadership from decades of Leftist misrule to a model of peace and progress.
Agartala (Tripura) Jun 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (June 20) lauded Tripura’s significant strides in governance, peace, and progress under the Bharatiya Janata Party’s leadership, asserting that the state has emerged from decades of misrule by the Left Front.
The Prime Minister made these remarks during a state-level function in Odisha, celebrating the first anniversary of the Mohan Charan Majhi-led government.
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi highlighted how the people of Tripura, after enduring a prolonged period under Leftist rule, chose to entrust the BJP with an opportunity to serve them.
“For the first time, the BJP was given an opportunity in Tripura. The state was lagging behind by miles in every parameter of development,” PM Modi stated.
Notably, the BJP-Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) alliance unseated the CPI(M)-led Left Front in the 2018 Assembly elections, a historical shift in the state’s political landscape.

Recalling the socio-political and economic conditions prevalent in Tripura during the Left Front’s tenure, Prime Minister Modi remarked, “Infrastructure was in a poor state. People’s voices were not heard within the government system. Everyone was troubled by widespread violence and corruption.”
He then contrasted this with the current situation, asserting, “But ever since the BJP got the opportunity to serve, today Tripura is emerging as an example of peace and progress.”

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha subsequently shared several video clips of Prime Minister Modi’s speech from the Odisha event, including the Prime Minister’s specific references to Tripura’s remarkable journey towards peace and progress.
