Train services in Tripura face disruption as Northeast Frontier Railway cancels and short terminates several trains due to a landslide in the Lumding–Badarpur section. Restoration work is underway on a war footing.
Agartala (Tripura), June 24: Rail connectivity in Tripura continues to face disruptions as the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced the cancellation and partial cancellation of more trains following a massive landslide in the Lumding–Badarpur hill section.
According to official sources from NFR, Train No. 12503 Humsafar Express, which was scheduled to begin its journey from SMVT Bengaluru to Agartala on June 27, 2025, has been fully cancelled.
In addition, Train No. 12502 Garib Rath Express, set to depart from Agartala to Kolkata on June 25, 2025, will now start from Guwahati instead. The segment between Agartala and Guwahati stands cancelled.
Likewise, Train No. 15625 Deoghar–Agartala Express, which began its journey on June 23, 2025, was short terminated at Lumding. The service between Lumding and Agartala was called off due to unsafe conditions.
Train No. 13173 Kanchanjunga Express from Sealdah to Sabroom, commencing on June 24, 2025, was also short terminated at Lumding. The section between Lumding and Sabroom remains suspended.
In an official statement, the NFR emphasized that restoration work is being carried out on a war footing in collaboration with state authorities. A high-level emergency meeting was recently held involving senior officials from the N. F. Railway, State Government, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), and other related departments to assess the situation and implement immediate remedial measures.
“Operations had to be halted purely out of concern for passenger safety and to protect railway infrastructure,” the statement said. “Teams equipped with heavy machinery and manpower are actively engaged in clearing debris and stabilizing the affected section.”
Railway officials reported that an estimated 50,000 cubic metres of mud and boulders slid towards the railway retaining wall, out of which 30,000 cubic metres must be removed before track repair can commence. Officials from both Lumding Division and NFR Headquarters are stationed on-site to oversee the progress.
Until safety is assured and normal operations can resume, the NFR has decided to continue cancellations and partial suspensions of selected trains. Passengers have been urged to follow updates through official railway websites, helplines, and verified social media platforms.
The NFR reiterated its commitment to restoring normalcy at the earliest possible time, ensuring both the safety of passengers and the integrity of rail operations.
