Agartala (Tripura), July 25: Sports landscape of Tripura is set to hold National Games. Besides, sports enthusiasts of the State are buoyed at the prospect of hosting the Northeast Games.
With augmented sports infrastructure, these events are expected to create interests among the children and youths regarding sports and lead a healthy life as well as explore new avenues for a career.
Concerned authorities in Tripura are actively positioning itself to host the prestigious National Games, with efforts intensifying and formal bids already submitted for three major events. Officials are hopeful that the state will soon be selected to host one or more of these competitions.
A significant meeting of the organizing committee took place on Friday in Shillong, where detailed discussions on logistics and event planning were held. The Tripura delegation comprised Sujit Roy, Secretary General of the Tripura Olympic Association, Dr. Pradeep Chakraborty, Secretary of the Sports Department, Deputy Director Biplab Dutta, along with other senior officials.
Key agendas of the meeting included preparations for both the National Games and the Northeast Games—an inter-state sporting event rotated annually among the seven northeastern states. Tripura, as per the schedule, is set to host the upcoming edition.
During the 2024 Northeast Games held in Nagaland, Tripura was officially declared the next host during the closing ceremony. To evaluate the state’s readiness, an observer team is expected to visit after August 15. Based on their findings, a joint review meeting between the Tripura Olympic Association and the state’s Sports Department will finalize the execution plan and scope of the events.
There is growing anticipation that Tripura will soon make its mark by hosting the National Games—a development considered a major boost for the region’s sports ecosystem. Sujit Roy expressed sincere appreciation to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and all stakeholders for their continuous encouragement and support toward making this ambition a reality.
