Belonia (Tripura) Jul 27: A tenth-grade student from Barpathari Sonapur Higher Secondary School in Rajnagar Block, Belonia, tragically passed away on Sunday morning at GB Hospital. The student consumed pesticide allegedly following a scolding by a teacher. Despite efforts to save her, she could not be revived.
The student, identified as Trisha Majumder, daughter of daily wage laborer Samar Majumder, is a top-performing student at Barpathari Sonapur School under the Belonia subdivision. Known for her academic brilliance, Trisha consistently ranks first in her class.
According to her family, tensions began during a recent test examination when Trisha scored 13 out of 14 in Biology. The teacher, Bina Das Patari, reportedly deducted one mark despite Trisha’s answer being correct, allegedly because she used a different pen to write the last response. When Trisha sought clarification, she was not only dismissed but also publicly accused of cheating and subjected to derogatory remarks in front of her classmates.
Devastated by the incident, Trisha returned home and attempted suicide by consuming poison. Her family rushed her to the Barpathari Primary Health Centre, where attending doctors referred her to the Shantir Bazar District Hospital due to the severity of her condition.
On Saturday, she was further shifted to Agartala’s GBP Hospital for advanced care where her condition was stated to be critical.

The incident has triggered outrage in the local community, with the girl’s family demanding immediate action against those responsible.
Trisha’s family, reeling from the emotional and financial toll, has sought justice.
