Against a cumulative target of 3,76,913 houses allocated by the Ministry of Rural Development, the State has sanctioned 3,76,279 housing units—bringing the completion rate close to 99%.

This information was shared by the Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on July 29.

District-wise data from the PMAY-G portal highlights strong performance across Tripura’s eight districts.

Dhalai district, comprising 8 blocks, leads with 53,997 houses completed. Gomati follows with 52,790 houses constructed across its 8 blocks.

South Tripura has achieved the completion of 51,340 homes in 8 blocks, while West Tripura has built 48,524 houses across 9 blocks.

Sepahijala has completed 46,438 houses in its 7 blocks, North Tripura recorded 43,041 completions in 8 blocks, and Khowai delivered 39,368 houses in its 6 blocks.

Unakoti, the smallest district with 4 blocks, has completed 35,682 houses.

The Ministry of Rural Development has been implementing PMAY-G since April 1, 2016, with the goal of providing pucca houses with basic amenities to eligible rural households. Initially, the scheme aimed to support the construction of 2.95 crore houses during the financial years 2016–17 to 2023–24.

Following the successful rollout, the Union Government approved the continuation of PMAY-G for the period 2024–25 to 2028–29, targeting an additional 2 crore rural houses.

As of July 24, 2025, the Ministry has allocated a cumulative target of 4.12 crore houses to States and Union Territories under the scheme. Of these, 3.84 crore houses have been sanctioned and 2.81 crore houses have been completed nationwide.

In West Bengal, a target of 45,69,423 houses was allocated, of which 34,19,419 have been completed as of the same date.

The government aims to achieve the vision of “Housing for All” in rural areas by assisting a total of 4.95 crore eligible rural households with pucca homes equipped with basic amenities by March 2029.

However, PMAY-G is not implemented in the Union Territories of Delhi, Chandigarh, and Puducherry. Additionally, the State of Telangana did not participate in the scheme during the previous implementation phase (2016–17 to 2023–24). (With inputs from PIB)
