Agartala Jul 31: BJP-led Government in Tripura is committed increasing the Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees, with a clear focus on bridging the gap with their Central government counterparts, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said today.

Addressing a state-level training program for Medical Officers (Dental), Nursing Officers, and Community Health Officers (CHOs) at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala, Dr. Saha took the opportunity to launch a sharp critique of the previous Left Front government.

He accused the former regime of distributing jobs based on political affiliation rather than merit, contrasting it with the current administration’s transparent and merit-driven recruitment process.

During the event, Dr. Saha also flagged off two blood collection and transportation vans for Kailashahar and Bishalgarh Hospitals, underscoring the government’s continued efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and outreach across the state.

No More Bribes or Protests for DA: CM

The Chief Minister underscored significant reforms in employee welfare, stating, “Earlier, government employees had to take to the streets to demand Dearness Allowance (DA). Since I took office, not a single protest has been necessary. We are committed to narrowing the DA gap with the Centre, despite financial constraints.”

He added that unlike in the past, transfers and job appointments are now free from bribery and political favoritism. “Gone are the days when people had to pay bribes for transfers. No one can say today that jobs are sold for money,” Dr. Saha asserted.

Left’s Legacy of Nepotism: A Thing of the Past

Targeting the opposition, Dr. Saha rebuked former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s accusations of job distribution under the BJP-led regime. “What are these allegations based on? We’ve provided over 19,000 jobs in a completely transparent process.

No one has ever challenged our recruitment mechanism,” he said, referring to the infamous 10,323 teachers’ controversy as a stark reminder of the previous government’s mismanagement.

He further alleged that the CPIM is trying to misguide people by spreading misinformation. “We don’t engage in divisive politics. The former government thrived on it,” he said.

Healthcare Reforms and Advancements

As the state’s Health Minister, Dr. Saha also outlined several key achievements in the healthcare sector.

“Tripura today has nine super-specialty services, and nearly 90% of ailments are being treated within the state. We’ve significantly enhanced facilities, including cancer care,” he noted.

Despite the availability of infrastructure, the CM acknowledged that lack of awareness still compels some people to seek treatment outside the state.

“Tripura Medical College is performing well. We’ve increased bed capacity at AGMC and GB Hospital and have directed the addition of another 100 beds,” he said.

Milestones in Organ Transplant Services

Dr Saha proudly announced that kidney transplants have successfully begun in the state.

“Previously, patients had to spend large sums to travel outside Tripura. But now, three successful kidney transplants have been conducted here. We have signed an MoU with MOHAN Foundation for liver transplants and are also gearing up to launch bone marrow transplant services,” he informed.

He concluded by stating that a comprehensive strategy is being developed to enhance HIV screening across the state, reflecting the government’s commitment to strengthening public health.
