Agartala, Aug 3: The Shyam Sundar Co. Jewelers Chandra Memorial League Football Tournament, organized by the Tripura Football Association, delivered high-voltage action today as Lalbahadur Byayamagar edged past Bloodmouth Club in a closely contested encounter, while excitement builds for two major fixtures scheduled tomorrow, on Monday, at the Umakanta Mini Stadium.
Lalbahadur Byayamagar bounced back from back-to-back defeats with a much-needed 1–0 win over Bloodmouth Club — the recent runners-up of the Rakhal Shield. The spirited clash under floodlights thrilled fans as both sides played attacking football from the outset. Despite creating multiple chances, Bloodmouth failed to capitalize due to poor finishing in the final third.
After a goalless first half, Lalbahadur’s breakthrough came in the 71st minute when Richard Bhanlal Thuama netted a sensational goal, sealing the team’s first victory in the tournament. The orange-and-black-clad Bloodmouth team pressed hard in search of an equalizer but was repeatedly denied by Lalbahadur’s solid backline.
Tensions flared after the match when Bloodmouth’s Asif Ali Molla engaged in a confrontation with referee Raktim Saha. Having already received one yellow card, Molla was shown a second, resulting in a red card and suspension from the team’s next match.
Meanwhile, anticipation is building for tomorrow’s double-header in the same league. In the 4 PM fixture, an in-form Nine Bullets Club, unbeaten in two matches and fresh from their victory over Shield champions Forward Club, will take on a struggling Ramkrishna Club. Nine Bullets coach Rajib Ghosh is confident of maintaining the team’s momentum, while former coach Kaushik Roy, now at the helm of Ramkrishna Club, is aiming to inspire a turnaround after two winless outings.
The evening match at 6:30 PM will see Town Club clash with Jewels Association. Both teams are under pressure to register a win, especially Jewels, who are looking to recover from a recent loss. Fans are eagerly looking forward to another round of thrilling, attacking football as the tournament gains pace.
