Two Young Lives Lost in Separate Tragic Incidents in Tripura
Agartala, Aug 27: Two young girls lost their lives in the State in the last two days casting pall of gloom. While a school student died in Agartala today and a 7-year old girl drowned in North Tripura on August 26.
In Agartala, 13-year-old schoolgirl Papiya Sarkar from Jaynagar Dashami Ghat died at IGM Hospital under circumstances her family attributes to alleged medical negligence. Papiya was a ninth grade student of Agartala’s Ramkrishna School.
According to relatives, Papiya collapsed at school today morning and was rushed to the IGM hospital. Doctors administered an injection and prescribed a blood test, but her family claimed that further treatment was withheld until the test results were available. As her condition deteriorated, the girl tragically passed away.
Papiya’s father, overwhelmed with grief, told reporters that his daughter could have been saved if timely treatment had been provided. He also raised concerns about the injection given to her.
The incident triggered unrest inside the hospital’s medicine ward, prompting police personnel from West Police Station to intervene and restore calm. While the authorities have yet to respond to the allegations, the incident has stirred outrage and left the local community deeply shaken.
In another heart-wrenching incident in North Tripura’s Kanchanpur subdivision on Tuesday (August 26), 7-year-old Shyamali Reang drowned in a stream near Nilmani Para under Chandipur ADC Village.
Shyamali, along with three other children, had gone to bathe in the stream on Tuesday afternoon. When she failed to return, villagers raised an alarm and informed the Kanchanpur Fire Service. Firefighters, joined by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, police led by Sub-Inspector Noren Reang, and TSR forces, carried out a search operation for nearly four hours before her body was recovered around 8 PM.
Her body was taken to Kanchanpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where a post-mortem is scheduled for Wednesday morning. Police have launched an investigation into the incident while the village mourns the sudden loss of the child.
